SheFit Ultimate Sports Bra Review Leave a comment

As a hard-to-fit bra size, sports bras that fit and support well are very hard for me to find. As a long distance runner, I can’t compromise on support. In a British study of female marathon runners, 1 in 3 women reported experiencing breast pain during running. I’ve unfortunately experienced it, too. With the right bra, breast pain shouldn’t be an issue. Finding a bra that’s durable, supportive, and fits comfortably, it’s a huge win. Here’s my review of SheFit’s Ultimate bra, their highest support style.

P.S. If you’re a long-time reader, you might remember that I originally wrote a review of SheFit a couple years ago. Since these bras are a favorite, I wanted to do a new review with better photos based on my experience since then.

SheFit bra sizing

SheFit’s bras are offered in sizes XS to 6Luxe (6XL). The sizes loosely correlate with tops sizing and fit differently from a lot of bras. With that in mind, I highly recommend checking out their “Find My Fit” page, or reach out to them to figure out the best size for you.

My first SheFit bra was a size XS, but since then I’ve figured out that size S is a way better fit for me. I’m wearing a size S in these photos. For reference, I typically wear a 30DD bra. I was honestly surprised that a size S bra could fit small enough in the band for my ribcage. But that’s the beauty of the adjustable band! I still have plenty of room to loosen or tighten it as needed.

The shoulder straps also have plenty of adjustability to give your traps as much or as little breathing room as you need. I never have issues with the shoulder straps cutting in, even with a backpack or running pack on top.

Out of the many, many times I’ve worn this bra, I’ve never had an issue with any of the straps or the zipper coming undone or catching on other clothing.

To get the bra on and off, I use the front zipper. This way, I don’t have to adjust the velcro every time. I unzip the front and put it on like a jacket. There are two hooks under the zipper, I use one of them to hold the bra in place while I zip it up. Lastly, with the zipper done up, I adjust everything til it feels comfortable.

Ultimate bra support and features

Design wins

The band on the Ultimate bra is extra-wide compared to most sports bras, measuring at 1.75″. Since the band provides the majority of bra support, the width gives it extra supportive power. The bra comes with cups for modesty, but they can be taken out if you don’t like them.

I don’t have any other bra that is as supportive as SheFit’s Ultimate bra. Everything is locked down. It’s a great feeling not to be distracted by breast movement and pain during long runs. As someone with fairly high-support needs, finding a bra that supports and tames breast movement this well is basically a miracle.

In terms of comfort, SheFit’s designs don’t have an underwire. Wires are a dealbreaker for me, they are just too painful. Unfortunately, a huge number of high-support bras use them. Getting support without a wire is another huge point for SheFit.

The shoulder straps can be worn in a traditional X pattern like I’m wearing here, or straight over the shoulders like an H. I personally only wear mine cross-back. The velcro at the front of the straps also makes these bras a good option for those who are breastfeeding.

From an aesthetic perspective, I love that the design doesn’t look like underwear. Most pretty bras are unsupportive, and most supportive ones look more like regular bras than sports bras. I like that this bra doesn’t compromise on either. I can comfortably wear it without a shirt on top without feeling like I’m out in my underwear.

Compared to SheFit’s Flex bra, their medium support bra, the Ultimate bra is much more structured. The Ultimate bra has a textured finish on the fabric, not soft and smooth like the Flex. I’ve tried both bras, and overall I prefer the Ultimate.

Design downsides

The one critique I’ve found with this bra is the front zipper. While the zipper is fully covered, I still occasionally have some chafing issues on very long runs. For almost all of my runs, it’s no problem. The issue only comes up when I am out running for 4+ hours. In this case, I sometimes get a hot spot from the rubbing on the base of the zipper. I usually use chafing balm or a band-aid proactively if I’m going to be out for a long time.

Another note about the zipper is that it shows under clothing–you can see what I mean in the photos in this post. I personally don’t care, but it’s something to note.

SheFit sports bra durability and value

My oldest SheFit bra is almost 3 years old and still supports as well as the day I got it, even after many wears and washings.

One of the best things about SheFit’s design is their signature adjustable fit. Both the band and straps are adjustable with strong velcro. This has two advantages. First, it makes the bra flexible if your size changes, which can save money on replacing your whole bra wardrobe. Second, the elastic of most bra bands wears out quickly, meaning they have to be replaced every 6-12 months for adequate support. Since SheFit’s bands are adjustable by many, many inches, they last much longer. In other words: while they might be more expensive than some sports bras, they are more long-lasting.

As an aside, you can also easily adjust the fit during your workout without having to take the bra off. In fact, I actually adjusted the band while we’re taking these photos out on the trail.

The Final Word

The Ultimate bra is what I wear more than any other sports bra in my rotation. I have 6 of these bras, and I’ve run hundreds and hundreds of miles in them. I highly recommend them, especially for those with high support needs.

SheFit always offers some seasonal colors alongside classic colors. The Ultimate bra currently is priced at $75. While they’re not cheap, I believe they are worth it! They do run occasional sales or offer out-of-season colors at a discount, so if money is tight, you can find a deal if you’re patient.
